Lebuhraya Borneo Utara (“LBU”), was honoured to be part of the team who made Sarawak’s 50-year dream of a highway spanning the State into a reality. As the Government’s project delivery partner, LBU began development of the MYR16.5 billion national mega project in 2015.
Fast facts of LBU’s hands-on experience on the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak mega project:
Responsible to develop 830 km of highway across Sarawak comprising of 797km of a new 4-lane dual carriageway highway and 33km of a 2-lane single carriageway.
Highway features included 119 bridges, 25 interchanges, rest & service areas, laybys, pedestrian bridges, bus shelters and road furniture.
Responsible for design and planning, procurement, land acquisition, construction management, monitoring and reporting to stakeholders, and project completion.
Fast-track development required for the 5½ year construction timeline.
Complex coordination with no less than 75 design consultants, 10 main contractors, 11 works packages, 25 sites, 10,000 jobs, multiple Government agencies, authorities and building support from local communities – to deliver the highway within a tight implementation timeline and ceiling cost.
Raised the benchmark for the local construction industry in quality, health, safety and environment practices, in traffic management, risk management, stakeholder engagement and local capacity-building (people talent, contractors and supporting industries).
Multiple award winner, local and international, for use of construction technologies (LiDAR, GIS, BIM, integrated project management, integrated asset management, reporting tools) to increase project delivery efficiency across the entire asset lifecycle
